It doesn’t matter if you select me or someone else to be your coach, if you are not coachable the results with be dismal at best.

For coaching to be effective, both the coach and the client have to be 100% committed to the success of the relationship.

To be coachable means you are willing to listen, reflect, and then take the appropriate actions.

That’s it! It’s not that hard – it’s simply choice that you make mentally and will reflect by your actions.

There will be times when I ask you to do something that is uncomfortable or give you feedback that is anything but warm and fuzzy, but that is the purpose of a coach. You probably have more then enough friends, what you need in a coach is someone who will call it right down the middle and ensure you stay true to your mission.

I am extremely selective about who I work with. I only engage with young professionals who are motivated and ambitious. You do NOT have to be labeled as a “high performer” within your organization or super accomplished, you just have to be willing to work hard.

The very first step in my coaching process is to take the below Coachability Quiz.

Instructions: On a blank sheet a paper, jot down three columns numbered 1 through 5. Read each statement, think it through HONESTLY, and write down your answer. Answer each statement “TRUE” or “FALSE.”

Simply answering all 15 statements as TRUE will only cheat yourself in the long run.

When it comes to my career:

  1. I am determined to make my best better.
  2. I am willing to take ownership of my career and be 100% accountable and responsible for my actions and their results.
  3. I am not satisfied with the status quo.
  4. I want to learn how to identify, maximize, and capitalize on career opportunities.
  5. I am willing to learn what I need to accelerate my career success and then take consistent action.

When it comes to my mentality:

  1. I am willing to let go of thoughts and behaviors that are no longer working for me.
  2. I am willing to look at my current circumstances in new and different ways.
  3. I don’t believe a lack of experience, tenure, or title should hold me back.
  4. I am willing to check my ego at the door and listen to the advice of others
  5. I enjoy winning

When it comes to coaching:

  1. I am open to honest feedback from my coach.
  2. I am strongly committed to my personal growth and development and see coaching as a way to invest (time, money, and energy) in myself.
  3. I see coaching as a way to achieve favorable and sustainable change.
  4. I am not looking for someone to give me the answers, but for someone to guide me to the answers that are already within me.
  5. I am willing to drive the coaching relationship when asked to arrive at my destination faster.

Note: The following recommendations apply regardless of how many statements you answered “TRUE” or “FALSE” in each column.

If you answered “TRUE” to 12 or more statements, you are ready for coaching! Let’s get started today. Call 630.512.7753.

If you answered “TRUE” to 9-11 statements, may not be ready for coaching. Revisit those statements that you did NOT answer “TRUE” to and ask yourself what you think you need to do to change your stance. If you have trouble changing your stance, lets try the free coaching consultation to see if we can move the dial enough to get started with coaching. Call 630.512.7753.

If you answered “TRUE” to 0-8 statements, I do not recommend that you proceed with coaching at this time.
